Megabeds in Istrian Flysch as markers of synsedimentary tectonics within the Dinaric foredeep (Croatia)

Istrian Flysch was deposited during the Eocene in Dinaric foredeep and is composed of hemipelagic marls various gravity flow deposits. The latter are predominantly 5-40 cm thick turbidites, developed mostly as laminated cross-rippled sandstone beds (Tb-e, Tc-e Td-e Bouma sequences). In addition to there deposits characterized by a significant thickness, occasionally more than 10 m, described complex (bipartite) megabeds. megabeds debrites lower part (Division I), high-density turbidites upper II). distinct clast composition each megabed indicates that lithoclasts were derived from tectonically active slopes fault scarps along which collapses different parts Cretaceous Palaeogene neritic carbonate succession, underlie Flysch, occurred. Division II well cemented, normally graded calcirudite/calcarenites orthophragminids, nummulitids, red algae, originating outer ramp environments.
